What Work Can I Do as an Independent “Digital Nomad”?

I believe that most of my readers are permanent employees and IT contractors. This article shares my thoughts on a Digital Nomad's work, using myself as an example. Last year, I spent 2.5 months with my parents in China while doing various tasks.

Like many, I desire the recognition of my skills, enjoy working and the sensation of being valuable and potentially beneficial to others. In my opinion (I realized this after my 40s), the idea of an “ideal vacation” such as lying on a beach and doing nothing doesn’t resonate with me. I prefer working but with complete autonomy and freedom.

Three Types of Work for Digital Nomads

An increasing number of software companies, like 37signals, have a majority of their employees working remotely. Here is an old Job Ad for a “Senior QA Tester” (manual) role on workingnomads.com.
In this work arrangement, there is no difference from your current permanent job, except that you work remotely nearly 100% of the time.
